Cybele is an Anatolian Mother Goddess whose worship may have its first evidence at neolithic Çatalhöyük in Southern Turkey. She is the only known goddess of Phrygia and may have served as a national deity there. She is depicted as a mysterious goddess in a chariot pulled by lions and heralded by falcons. She is the mother of Mountains and patron of town walls, wildnerness and wild animals. Very little written record exists of her worship in Anatolia - only short inscriptions and religious art remains. What we do know suggests she is not only a Great Mother Goddess, but also a keeper of boundaries: a mediator of the places between the wild and civilized, known and unknown and the material and spiritual planes. She is associated strongly with untouched wilderness, but her connection to liminal places also seats her firmly in the role of protector of cities and the embodiment of protective walls. Her worship was adopted by Ancient Greek colonists of Turkey and brough back to Greece where she was incorporated as an aspect of Gaia, Demeter and Rhea.
This is a matte, loose blush in a deeper, warm reddish-pink. It is a buildable shade that can be applied lightly for a subtle wash of colour or built up for a more dramatic effect.
